Mapping as a Blueprint for Future Landscapes _Case Study >> Dubrovnik Territory
Category: Visual essay
Abstract
A territory is a complex system of relationships and large-scale structural networks. All such systems of management, development, and territorial planning exist in a state of fragile and unstable balance, where the sustainable governance of spatial and infrastructural resources is crucial to the fate of the environment and the society in which we live. In this case, artistic and design-driven research is conducted through mapping—drawing and diagramming. As a result, we have knowledge and strategies that are the blueprint for future artistic and design practices, interventions, and methodologies. Compositional diagrams facilitate mediation between the history of architecture and the way it defines external space, thereby generating a new reality through the design process. This is the concept of the superposition of traces from the past, present, and future, which leaves room for adapting new spatial positions within the open, dynamic system of the territory— Dubrovnik’s urbanized landscape.
