Architecture With Qualities Analogy as a Dialogue Partner During Design Process
Category: Written essay
Abstract
Functional contexts, economic constraints, spatial programmes, building regulations and restrictions on regenerative materials have taken much higher priority in the design process than aesthetics, the quality of experience and style beyond functionality. The promotion of diversity and the quality of spatial experience for sustainability is much neglected and should be given greater importance in contemporary architectural discourse. In short, it is about designs for the human scale and the senses. This creates resonance and leads to vibrant, enjoyable environments with increased attractiveness. Higher perceived quality creates long-term value and thus sustainability. In my opinion this aspect is much neglected in the contemporary architecture discourse. This paper addresses the question of how dealing with structural analogies in the design process can help to create a spatial diversity and variance that offers a plurality of spatially coherent structures and spatial qualities.
